In brief

On Friday, Ukraine’s military struck three Russian oil refineries and a gas‑chemical complex, leading to minor damage at one site and a brief resumption of attacks. Kremlin officials said the strikes would not derail a November settlement meeting, while reports from RTE indicated that around 200,000 Ukrainians lost power from the renewed attacks. The conflict over energy infrastructure continues to impact civilian infrastructure as defense systems engage.

On Friday, Ukraine’s military launched strikes on three oil refineries and a gas‑chemical complex in Russia, according to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

"Attacks on refineries have resumed, and our enterprises are working on defense," Novak said.

The Russian side said the attacks, which resumed after a brief pause, targeted facilities that supply a significant portion of the country’s petroleum processing.

According to Novak, one refinery sustained minor damage, while air‑defence units performed as expected and intercepted several drones.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the strikes would not delay a upcoming trilateral meeting on Ukraine settlement plans slated for November, and that Russia has no restrictions on military operations during the preparatory period.

In related news, the Irish broadcaster RTE reported that around 200,000 people in Ukraine lost power as a consequence of the renewed refinery attacks, highlighting the broader impact on civilian infrastructure.

The Russian side maintains that the operational status of its refineries remains largely unchanged, with work continuing under additional defensive measures.

The trilateral meeting, which brings together Russia, Ukraine and a third state, is expected to address settlement issues amid ongoing hostilities, and officials say the strikes will not alter the agenda.

As the conflict over energy infrastructure continues, both sides emphasize defense capabilities and readiness, while civilian populations in Ukraine experience disruptions in electricity and essential services.
