British Backpacker Admits Guilt in E-Scooter Fatality After Heavy Drinking
Alicia Kemp, a 25-year-old British backpacker, has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a pedestrian while riding an e-scooter under the influence of alcohol.
In a tragic incident in Perth, Alicia Kemp, originally from Redditch, Worcestershire, admitted to killing 51-year-old Thanh Phan after riding an e-scooter while heavily intoxicated, registering a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. The court heard that after being ejected from a bar, Kemp and a friend rented an e-scooter and were riding at speeds between 20 and 25 km/h when Kemp struck Phan, who was waiting to cross the street. He suffered severe injuries and succumbed to a brain bleed two days later. Kemp’s actions resulted in her being charged with dangerous driving causing death, facing up to 20 years in prison. Her lawyer stated she hopes for a swift resolution to her case and has expressed remorse for her actions.
