In brief

Myanmar exported 200,080 tonnes of fishery products, earning over $343 million in the first seven months of fiscal 2026‑27. This falls short of the previous year's 234,107 tonnes, according to the Department of Fisheries. Most shipments were sent to China, Thailand, the Middle East and Europe.

In Yangon, Myanmar’s Department of Fisheries announced that the country exported 200,080 tonnes of fishery products in the first seven months of fiscal 2026‑27, a period that began in April.

The total revenue from those exports exceeded $343 million, according to the department’s report released on 6 November.

This number represents a decline in volume when compared with the same period of the prior fiscal year, when Myanmar shipped 234,107 tonnes of fishery products.

The Department of Fisheries identified the majority of the 200,080 tonnes as destined for China, followed by Thailand, then the Middle East and Europe.

In addition to these major markets, the department noted that the fishery exports reached about 40 countries and regions around the world.

Myanmar’s fishing industry has long been a key contributor to the national economy, and the Department of Fisheries routinely tracks export trends to guide policy decisions.

According to Xinhua, the export figures were reported by department officials during a press briefing held in Yangon’s capital.

The lower volume in the first seven months of fiscal 2026‑27 may reflect broader challenges facing the sector, said the department, but further details were not provided in the release.

The fiscal year required for the 2026‑27 report was defined as beginning on April 1, a standard practice for national economic statistics in Myanmar.

Overall, the report illustrates a shift in the volume of Myanmar’s fishery exports, with an emphasis on sustaining trade relationships with leading global buyers in Asia and beyond.
