High-profile British sports agent Jonathan Barnett finds himself embroiled in controversy following a lawsuit filed in the US, where he has been accused of raping a woman more than 39 times. In a civil complaint presented to a district court in Los Angeles, the unidentified claimant, referred to as "Jane Doe," alleges that Barnett "trafficked" her from Australia to the UK in 2017, subsequently torturing and controlling her as a "sex slave" for a duration of six years. The lawsuit claims that Barnett made "repeated threats to her life and the lives of her minor children." The 75-year-old Barnett, who has a reputation for representing star footballers like Gareth Bale and Jack Grealish, has openly denied all allegations, stating they are false and ungrounded. A statement from his legal team expressed his intent to "vigorously defend this lawsuit," emphasizing a desire for vindication.Barnett was recognized by Forbes magazine as the world's most powerful sports agent in 2019. The lawsuit, submitted on Wednesday, notes that the pair first connected in the 1990s through a professional athlete, eventually meeting again online before she relocated to the UK in 2017 with her teenage children, expenses covered by Barnett's agency, CAA Stellar.Upon her arrival, she claims Barnett told her he "owned" her and non-consensually assaulted her in a hotel room. The complaint outlines a series of stringent rules imposed by Barnett, who she claims demanded she refer to him as "My Master" and forbade her from expressing any pain. The woman alleges the sexual and physical abuse escalated to horrific acts, including forced consumption of urine and feces, along with being restrained without food or water for extended periods. The filing states that Barnett "trafficked, threatened, tortured, and held" the woman captive across various locations worldwide over six years, leaving her powerless and terrified of severe repercussions for resisting. Additionally, she is suing the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and its parent companies, alleging negligence in failing to recognize significant payments Barnett made to her without any legitimate business connection.Legal representatives for "Jane Doe" are portraying the case as an instance of "institutional abuse," seeking monetary compensation for the alleged suffering endured. As reported by the LA Times, CAA became aware of the accusations last year when the plaintiff's lawyers initiated settlement discussions, highlighting that Doe has never had ties to their organizations. CAA affirmed their serious stance on the allegations, urging the claimant to reach out to law enforcement in the UK.
