The Ferrari that Michael Schumacher piloted to victory at the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix has been auctioned off for a striking 15.98 million euros (£13.43 million). The F2001 was a key player in Schumacher's illustrious career, as he also utilized this vehicle to win the Hungarian Grand Prix and secure the fourth of his seven world titles that same year.

The prestigious auction was conducted by RM Sotheby's, timed just before this year’s Monaco Grand Prix qualifying sessions, making it a significant highlight in the motorsport community. This sale marks the highest amount ever paid for a car driven by Schumacher, 56, at an auction, and it ranks as the fourth most expensive Formula One car ever sold. The all-time record for an F1 car was recently established in February when a Mercedes 'streamliner', driven by legendary racers Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, sold for £42.75 million.

Previously, the highest bid for a car associated with Schumacher was £9.75 million, achieved for his F2003 back in 2002. As the F1 community turns its gaze towards Monaco, Ferrari aims to replicate Schumacher's historic success, with Charles Leclerc starting second on the grid, just behind McLaren’s Lando Norris for the upcoming race.
