In brief
Italian authorities have confirmed the deaths of four individuals in a shocking cable car accident that took place south of Naples on Thursday.
The cable car, a popular attraction known for its stunning views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, experienced a fatal failure just moments from its destination, resulting in the deaths of two British tourists, an Israeli citizen, and the Italian driver. According to reports, the two British victims have been named as Elaine and Graeme Winn, while the Israeli casualty was identified as Janan Suleiman. Tragically, Janan's brother, Thabet Suleiman, was the only survivor of the incident, currently fighting for his life in a Naples hospital. Mayor Luigi Vicinanza of Castellammare di Stabia expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as "tragic" as family members of the victims were expected to arrive in Italy later today. The accident is believed to have occurred when a traction cable snapped, leading to chaos both on the cable car nearing the summit and another stranded cabin below where nine individuals had to be evacuated by firefighters. Authorities are now launching an investigation to determine the precise circumstances that led to this dreadful event.
