In brief

U.S. President Donald Trump held separate, privately‑held meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington that the White House described as "positive and productive." Zelensky pressed Trump for a pledge to provide Ukraine with licences for domestic production of Patriot missile systems, a key air‑defence measure against Russian ballistic attacks. Netanyahu focused on the conflict in Iran and praised a shared goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The visits took place against the backdrop of the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham and an uptick in U.S.‑Iranian military tensions.

Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, holding two separate private meetings that the White House described as "positive and productive."

Zelensky travelled to the United States to address the urgent needs of his nation amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. He pressed the former U.S. president for a promise made at the NATO summit this month that could allow Kyiv to licence domestic production of Patriot interceptor missiles – a system that can fend off ballistic and drone attacks.

Netanyahu, meanwhile, came to discuss escalating U.S.–Iran tensions, stressing a shared goal of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He praised the conversation with Trump as one of the best he has had with an American president.

The meetings were held after the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch supporter of Israel and a champion of U.S. aid to Ukraine, where both Zelensky and Netanyahu attended to pay their respects.

Trump posted a brief update on Truth Social, saying the closed‑door meetings "went very well" and that they were "a very good meeting."

Following the meeting with Zelensky, the president indicated that Ukraine might receive licences to co‑produce Patriot missiles, should domestic production be feasible. Zelensky stated that the agreement offered a "big signal to Europe" and a clear support for Ukraine amid ongoing protests over his decision to replace a popular defence minister.

Meanwhile, U.S. and Saudi forces reported that Iranian forces had attempted a surprise attack on American forces in the Middle East, claiming all missiles were intercepted. Iranian proxies reportedly fired drones at Saudi energy infrastructure, further illustrating the volatility in the region.

As the global conflicts continue, the U.S. government remains focused on providing strategic support to its allies while managing the intricate security dynamics across the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
