Russia has identified three suspects in the shooting of high-profile military general, Lt Gen Vladimir Alexeyev. The alleged gunman is identified as Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba.
According to the Russian Investigations Committee (SK), Korba was reportedly sent to Moscow by Ukrainian intelligence services to execute a terrorist attack, a claim that Kyiv has denied.
The attack occurred in a residential block in the north-western outskirts of Moscow, where Alexeyev, who is second in command at Russia's GRU military intelligence, sustained serious injuries but has since regained consciousness post-surgery.
Witnesses reported that the assailant fired three shots before fleeing the scene. Korba allegedly traveled to the UAE shortly after the shooting but has since been arrested and extradited back to Russia.
State media aired footage of Korba's extradition, and investigators discovered a Makarov pistol as the murder weapon, which is currently undergoing forensic testing. Reports indicate that Korba may have had help from at least two accomplices: Viktor Vasin, who has been arrested in Moscow, and Zinaida Serebritskaya, who reportedly fled to Ukraine.
Russian officials have accused Kyiv of executing the attack to destabilize ongoing peace negotiations, while Ukrainian officials suggest it reflects internal conflicts within Russia.
This incident marks another instance of targeted attacks against high-ranking military officials in Moscow amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
