Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Vladimir Putin from threatening Europe, according to Poland's President Karol Nawrocki.
In an interview with Radio 4's Today programme, he stated that the Russian leader was not to be trusted, and that Europe must support Trump in his efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Nawrocki has been a known supporter of Trump even before his recent meetings in Britain with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. He stressed that with Putin’s Russia posing a direct threat to Poland and Eastern Europe, Trump was uniquely positioned to solve this problem and bring about an end to the Ukraine conflict.
He referred to last September's drone attacks, when over 20 unmanned aircraft crossed into Poland, labeling it an extraordinary situation and asserting it tested Poland's defenses and NATO's solidarity.
Nawrocki expressed gratitude to Britain for sending RAF Typhoon jets to help secure Poland’s borders, emphasizing that Poland has been in a hybrid war with Russia since 2021, facing drones and disinformation tactics.
He highlighted that current Russian activities reflect dangerous times ahead.
Nawrocki also addressed his positive relationship with Trump, particularly in light of the president's previous controversial comments regarding Greenland. He insisted that despite conflicting statements from U.S. officials, the U.S. remains the security guarantor in Europe and that Trump’s diplomatic engagements deserved respect.
The Polish president pointed out that Europe seems to be detaching from the U.S., which poses risks to its economic and military security. He mentioned Poland’s significant defense spending, close to 5% of its GDP, as a crucial factor for its resilience.
Thanking British soldiers stationed in Poland for their efforts to maintain NATO's Eastern flank, Nawrocki expressed his hope for Poland's inclusion in discussions at the G20 summit hosted by Britain next year.
