Perez Hilton, the 48‑year‑old celebrity gossip blogger, is reported to be in hospital in a serious but stable condition after a self‑harm livestream that prompted emergency services to be summoned to his Miami home.
The Miami sheriff’s office confirmed that they had attended a scene where the man was livestreaming acts of self‑harm alone in his house. A statement released on Hilton’s own website says he “experienced significant blood loss” and that his treatment and recovery will be a long process.
Hilton was held in hospital under Florida’s Baker Act, which provides services for people experiencing a mental health crisis. His father‑of‑three, named Mario Lavandeira, is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.
TikTok’s automated moderation system flagged the livestream within minutes to its US moderation team for review. A moderator error caused a delay in the removal, but the platform alerted law enforcement, closed several subsequent streams within 90 seconds, and banned Hilton’s account.
Hilton, who adopted the pseudonym as a reference to Paris Hilton, has a history of harsh commentary on celebrities and has appeared on reality TV shows such as Celebrity Rap Superstar and Celebrity Big Brother. He has recently expressed regrets about being “mean or cruel.”
