In a remarkable tale of survival, an eight-year-old boy from Zimbabwe, Tinotenda Pudu, has been located alive after spending five days lost in the dangerous expanse of the Matusadona Game Park, home to lions and elephants. According to local member of parliament Mutsa Murombedzi, the young boy ventured 23 km (14 miles) from his home into this perilous wildlife sanctuary. During his five-day ordeal, he slept on rocky ledges amidst lions’ roars and elephants’ movements, surviving on wild fruits. The Matusadona Game Park, with a lion population of around 40, is known for having one of the highest densities of lions in Africa, as per African Parks. Details about the incident were confirmed by the Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority, although no further information was provided.Murombedzi highlighted Tinotenda’s remarkable survival instincts, noting that he managed to find potable water by digging small wells in dry riverbeds—an essential skill taught in the drought-prone region. The local Nyaminyami community organized search parties and beat drums daily to help guide him back home. On the fifth day of his adventure, the boy heard the sound of a ranger's vehicle and sprinted toward it, narrowly missing it at first. Fortunately, the park rangers, upon spotting fresh footprints, continued their search efforts until they successfully found him. "This was probably his last chance of being rescued after 5 days in the wilderness," said Murombedzi. Matusadona Game Park spans over 1,470 square kilometers (570 square miles) and houses diverse wildlife including zebras, elephants, hippos, and antelopes. Social media has erupted with admiration for Tinotenda's bravery, with many celebrating his resilience and imagining the captivating story he will share upon returning to school.
