TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities continue to investigate the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, mother of 'Today' show anchor Savannah Guthrie, after she was reported missing from her home just outside Tucson. The search, now in its sixth day, has raised significant concerns as her health could be jeopardized without daily medication.
The Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, expressed particular frustration regarding a doorbell camera that did not capture any images relevant to the investigation due to a disconnect, thus losing valuable footage from the day of Nancy's disappearance. ‘It is concerning, it’s actually almost disappointing because you’ve got your hopes up,’ Nanos told the Associated Press.
Results from DNA tests confirmed that blood found on the porch matched Nancy, indicating she may have been taken against her will. Meanwhile, the absence of suspects continues to overshadow the investigation, with sheriff Nanos promising that officials remain committed to retrieving any potentially recoverable footage.
The sheriff noted an urgent concern for Nancy’s health, citing her need for a pacemaker and ongoing treatment for high blood pressure and heart issues. ‘Her conditions, I would imagine, are worsening day by day,’ Nanos stated, echoing worries shared by the family.
Amid these developments, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have made emotional appeals through social media, emphasizing they’re eager to communicate with anyone holding their mother. The family is asking for proof of Nancy’s well-being amid the distressing situation.
The investigation has drawn national attention, notably from former President Donald Trump, who has promised federal resources to assist in the search. As appeals continue and the search efforts remain diligent, the community remains hopeful for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie.
