In brief

After a sudden raid by Homeland Security agents early on 12 October, Representative Ilhan Omar detailed the search of her Washington‑DC home, the seizure of personal devices, and her decision to move out. The agents collected over a dozen items, including cell phones and notebooks, as part of a broader investigation that has not yet disclosed the specific charges. Omar, a longtime target of former President Trump, accused the probe of politically motivated intimidation, calling it an abuse of power. President Obama also condemned the operation as appalling, while Trump denied any involvement. The raid has sparked renewed debate over civil liberties and the limits of federal authority.

WASHINGTON – Representative Ilhan Omar, the Democratic voice from Minnesota, told MSN NOW that she must leave her Washington‑DC home after the move‑in‑morning raid by federal agents left her feeling unsafe.

The overnight search on 12 October, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations agents, involved 15 to 25 officers who entered the house around 6 am local time. Omar recalls the sudden pounding on the doors, the brief exchange over a warrant, and the five‑hour sweep of rooms that resulted in the seizure of 17 items, including several cell phones, notebooks and a vintage camera.

While the Justice Department has not clarified the alleged crime, official statements say the raid is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Omar, who became a U.S. citizen in 2000 after arriving from Kenya, has long faced federal scrutiny, and a wave of subpoenas targeting her family was issued as part of the probe.

Speaking openly, Omar called the raid an “outrageous abuse of power” and said the action was designed to intimidate her. Former President Barack Obama also blasted the investigation, describing it as “so appalling.” Trump, meanwhile, denied any connection, claiming the probe has nothing to do with him.

The raid has reignited concerns over the limits of federal authority and the protection of civil liberties for elected officials. With death threats already part of her daily reality, Omar emphasized that she can no longer live in the house and must move out to ensure the safety of herself and her children.
