ICE Agent’s Bronx Shooting Sparks Citywide Outrage

During a targeted enforcement operation on Thursday night, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent discharged his weapon at a man in the Bronx, New York City, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The DHS said the victim, a Dominican national named only in the statement, was still alive and being treated at a local hospital when the shooting occurred. The agent had been attempting to arrest the individual on allegations of criminal activity.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani described the incident as "unconscionable and incredibly serious," adding that the agent had surrounded the victim and a five‑year‑old child in a vehicle before firing multiple rounds. The mayor added, "I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorise our communities."

Governor Kathy Hochul said she had spoken with President Donald Trump and expressed "outrage on behalf of New Yorkers," urging the release of body‑camera footage to establish the facts. Trump has yet to comment publicly on the incident.

The DHS detailed that the arrested individual had a prior criminal record—including grand larceny, assault, robbery, drug possession, and weapons charges—and was linked to the transnational criminal group the Trinitarios. He had been arrested in December 2023 and released a few days later, the DHS statement noted.

The shooting adds to a series of high‑profile incidents involving ICE officers this year, including the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis in January. Protesters gathered outside the scene, chanting "We want justice" and "ICE off our streets now."
