WASHINGTON (AP) — Darren Indyke, Jeffrey Epstein's longtime personal attorney, testified before a House committee on Thursday, asserting that he was unaware of Epstein’s sexual abuse of underage girls at the time it occurred. This assertion aligns with similar claims made by other associates of Epstein, including his former accountant and prominent clients.
Indyke, who worked closely with Epstein for approximately two decades, emphasized in his opening remarks that he had no knowledge whatsoever of Epstein's criminal activities, stating that he would have terminated his services immediately had he been aware of the trafficking of women and minors.
Others close to Epstein, such as former leaders and associates, have echoed this narrative during their hearings, leading to frustration among Democratic members of the committee who are keen on holding individuals accountable.
While Indyke, alongside Epstein’s former accountant Richard Kahn, is an executor of Epstein’s estate and was expected to provide critical insights into Epstein's illicit activities, lawmakers have noted a lack of substantive information offered during the sessions.
As with all the other witnesses, they all claim they never had any knowledge before it became public that Mr. Epstein was involved with women, doing anything inappropriately with young women, remarked Rep. James Comer of the House Oversight Committee.
Democratic lawmakers accused Indyke and Kahn of evading the truth, alleging a consistent pattern of deceit as they sought to protect themselves and the legacy of Epstein amid increasing scrutiny from survivors and the public.
Indyke’s assertion of ignorance contradicts previous allegations and lawsuits against him, which have alleged that those managing Epstein's estate were complicit in his illegal acts for financial gain.
As the investigation continues to unfold amidst rising political tensions, Democrats are pushing for the release of more documentation from Epstein’s estate to aid their inquiry into his extensive network of abuse.
