Anthony Albanese’s Remark About Kylie Minogue Sparks Backlash

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese faced furious backlash after a joking comment on the "Bush Deep" podcast, in which he teased Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue.

"Kylie, clearly", the prime minister said when asked whether he would "shag, marry or date" the singer, alongside actress Nicole Kidman and entertainer Rhonda Burchmore.

The comments were labelled "entirely inappropriate" by a fellow MP, and described as "disrespectful to women… and demean the office of prime minister" by another. The swift public reaction included internet memes, social‑media backlash and calls for a formal apology.

In a brief statement early Monday, Albanese offered a full apology, saying, "I apologise unequivocally for the comments." The apology follows a series of public apologies for earlier remarks that triggered national outrage.
