Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom took a stand against Elon Musk's recent social media allegations on Monday, addressing the billionaire's misleading statements regarding child sex abuse scandals. While not naming Musk directly, Starmer criticized the "lies and misinformation" being disseminated, emphasizing that such actions divert attention from the victims themselves.Speaking at an event focused on the restoration of the National Health Service in Epsom, south of London, Starmer stated, "Those who are spreading lies and misinformation, as far and as wide as possible, are not interested in victims. They’re interested in themselves." The comments came after Musk accused Starmer of not taking prompt action against child abuse gangs when he served as head of public prosecutions.Starmer's tenure from 2008 to 2013 saw the initial prosecution of grooming gangs in Rotherham, where around 1,400 young girls were exploited. He highlighted his efforts, including drafting guidelines for mandatory reporting of child sex offenses. "There’s nothing secret about being director of public prosecutions," he stressed, defending his track record and the transparency of the cases he managed.Musk's claims included unsubstantiated assertions that Starmer had concealed information about the abuse and further derogatory remarks about Jess Phillips, the Labour government's under secretary for safeguarding. As tensions escalate, Starmer continues to advocate for accountability and accuracy regarding such serious allegations.
