In brief

Kamal Adwan Hospital in the north of Gaza has suffered direct hits from Israeli airstrikes, injuring both patients and medical personnel, as confirmed by hospital officials and local health authorities.

In a catastrophic escalation, Israeli airstrikes severely damaged Kamal Adwan Hospital, a key medical center in northern Gaza, resulting in injuries to both patients and medical staff. This incident follows a recent offensive that had already crippled the facility a week prior. According to statements from the Gazan health ministry, who referred to their appeal as a “distress call that may be the last,” the bombardment continued to target the hospital in Jabaliya—a highly populated area north of Gaza City. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh, the hospital's director, reported an intense three-hour shelling in which injured medical teams couldn’t be reached due to the unsafe conditions within the facility. He expressed concern for his staff who were trapped on different floors and unable to access assistance. The health ministry corroborated these accounts, claiming that all hospital facilities were affected, resulting in multiple injuries. In response, the Israeli military announced it was investigating the incidents but offered no immediate comments regarding the attacks. They claimed to have previously facilitated the evacuation of patients and staff from Kamal Adwan and another hospital in Nuseirat, providing humanitarian support, although the reasons for the evacuations remained unclear. Past Israeli statements suggest that strikes on hospitals are often linked to military targets for Hamas militants. However, local healthcare administrators and human rights organizations strongly refute these claims, arguing that Israel deliberately targets crucial healthcare infrastructure amidst the ongoing conflict.
