A small unmanned aerial vehicle launched by the terrorist Houthi militia was intercepted and destroyed over Yemen’s southern region late last night, according to a statement from the Saudi‑led coalition.

The operation was confirmed by Major General Turki al‑Malki, spokesperson for the coalition, at 19:05 local time, which corresponds to 16:05 GMT.

The UAV was described as a small aircraft, likely used by the militia to conduct reconnaissance or deliver munitions against targets in the region.

The southern region of Yemen has been a flashpoint in the ongoing conflict, with civilians and military forces alike caught in the crossfire between the government and Houthi rebels.

The coalition’s air defense system detected the incoming UAV and engaged it with guided munitions, bringing the aircraft down in an isolated area to avoid civilian damage.

Once intercepted, the aircraft was destroyed in the air, preventing any potential payload from reaching the ground.

Major General al‑Malki stressed that the interception demonstrates the coalition’s continuous efforts to counter Houthi attacks and protect the southern region from further threats.

Both government and coalition forces have reiterated their commitment to maintaining security in the southern region, warning that Houthi militia would continue to test the area’s defenses with additional UAV and missile launches.
