In a recent appearance on Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, Billy Joel, 76, shared that he is feeling "good" two months after announcing his diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). Although he admitted to experiencing some balance issues, the five-time Grammy winner reassured fans, saying, "I feel good, they keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I'm feeling."
Earlier this year, Joel had to cancel several concert dates in May after his medical team informed him that his condition had worsened due to his performances. The National Health Service (NHS) describes NPH as an uncommon brain condition that usually affects individuals over the age of 60. It leads to fluid build-up in the brain, potentially impacting hearing, vision, and mobility.
In a statement on his Instagram, Joel noted that he is undergoing targeted physical therapy and is determined to prioritize his health moving forward. His wife, Alexis Joel, expressed gratitude for the swift diagnosis and care the family received, as well as optimism for his recovery.
Due to his health concerns, Joel has had to cancel 17 scheduled performances across North America and Europe, including high-profile shows at Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Anfield in Liverpool. Known for hits like "Uptown Girl" and "Piano Man," Joel recently concluded a remarkable decade-long residency at Madison Square Garden in New York, wrapping up with a performance in February 2025 that ended with an accident on stage.
Fans have been supportive, and the singer continues to focus on his recovery while looking forward to future projects.
