Authorities confirmed that the assailant, who has been identified as Thai, ultimately took his own life after the attack. Among the deceased were four security personnel, with the fifth victim being a market worker. Additionally, two other sellers sustained injuries during this violent event.
Police Lieutenant Siam Boonsom stated in local media reports that the shooter had a history of conflict with the security staff at the market, although he emphasized that the incident was not linked to the ongoing territorial disputes between Thailand and Cambodia. The Or Tor Kor Market is primarily known for its vibrant offerings of fresh produce, seafood, and local delicacies, drawing crowds daily.
Gun ownership in Thailand is notably high compared to its regional neighbors; however, incidents of mass shootings are relatively rare. Unfortunately, the nation has experienced a series of deadly shooting incidents in recent years that have raised alarm bells across communities.
