The 2026 iENA international invention fair opened in Nuremberg on Saturday, drawing nearly 600 inventions from more than 20 countries and regions, according to Xinhua. The event took place in a three‑day span at the city’s exhibition centre and aimed to highlight green technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable solutions.

Organiser AFAG reports that almost 98 percent of the showcased inventions had not been presented to the public before the fair. The displays cover a broad range of areas, including environmental protection, energy technologies, mobility, electrical engineering, information technology, teaching, and research. The fair’s focus on eco‑friendly innovations reflects the growing global concern over climate change and resource conservation.

Highlights and Focus

During the opening days, visitors could explore a wide array of prototypes that employ renewable energy, energy storage efficiency, and zero‑emission technologies. The green theme was reinforced by exhibits that illustrate novel approaches to waste reduction, water purification, and sustainable agriculture. In parallel, the fair’s AI component showcased smart systems that optimise energy usage, manage traffic flow, and improve industrial automation.

The event’s curator, Henning Koenicke, highlighted the importance of connecting invention makers with potential commercial partners.

"iENA provides an opportunity to connect with research partners and companies that can help bring their inventions to market,"

Koenicke said in a statement to Xinhua. He added that the fair was founded in 1948 and has, since then, aimed to present the latest innovations from around the world to companies and the public. By offering inventors a platform to gain user feedback, iENA helps them explore business opportunities and refine their products.

Future Discussions

The fair’s organisers announced an accompanying Innovation Congress scheduled for November 2, after the exhibition ends. The Congress will address topics such as AI, collaborative innovation, and how new inventions can be integrated into existing industries. The programme is intended to bring together researchers, industry leaders and technology developers for a dialogue that could shape the next wave of digital and green infrastructure.

By positioning the fair as a gateway to both environmental and technological advancement, the 2026 iENA event in Nuremberg reinforces Germany’s status as a hub for sustainable development and smart technology. The large international turnout underscores the global demand for solutions that will shape production, consumption, and urban life for the coming decades.
