In brief
In a startling incident on a Melbourne motorway, a female driver experienced the shock of a lifetime when a snake slithered up her leg while she was driving at high speed. Emergency services were alerted when she exited her vehicle in panic, leaving one of her shoes behind.
Authorities from Victoria Police arrived on the scene to assess the situation after receiving reports of a distressed motorist. Officers found the woman "acting hiss-terically" by the roadside as she attempted to flag down help. She explained that while driving at 80km/h (approximately 50mph), she suddenly felt a presence on her foot that turned out to be a tiger snake, one of the world's most poisonous snakes. The Melbourne Snake Control team was called to safely capture and relocate the snake. Despite her harrowing encounter, the woman displayed remarkable composure, managing to steer through traffic and come to a stop before making a quick exit from her car. Following the incident, she was transported to a local hospital with concerns over a possible snake bite, but reports indicate she is now doing well.Victoria Police shared information about the remarkable rescue operation, noting that the snake was successfully removed from the vehicle and returned to its natural habitat, well away from human proximity. Tim Nanninga from Melbourne Snake Control mentioned that onlookers in traffic were left in astonishment as they witnessed the unique extraction of the reptile.
