In brief

On Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, two Israeli airstrikes in Gaza Strip killed eight Palestinians, including five police officers. The strikes struck a police convoy near Khan Younis and a civilian gathering in Gaza City’s Al‑Rimal neighbourhood, killing a child and several civilians. The attacks added to Gaza’s growing toll of casualties since the 2025 ceasefire, prompting condemnation from Hamas.

On Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, two Israeli airstrikes hit the Gaza Strip, killing eight Palestinians, including five police officers, as reported by local and medical sources.

A drone fired a missile at a group of Palestinians and police personnel in the al‑Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Nasser Medical Complex said at least five people were killed and several others wounded, some seriously, in the strike. Gaza’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that five members of the General Directorate of Police were killed while “performing routine duties” in al‑Mawasi.

In a separate incident, an Israeli drone hit a gathering in the al‑Rimal neighbourhood, west of Gaza City. Three Palestinians, including a four‑year‑old child, were killed and six others wounded, some critically. The attack also targeted the Taj Mall, a commercial centre in the area. A separate person died on Sunday from wounds sustained during a previous attack.

Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said:

They were targeted as they were doing their jobs,

The Israeli army told the AFP news agency that it was targeting “a terrorist” in southern Gaza.

Hamas condemned the latest Israeli attacks as a “deliberate war crime.” In a statement on Sunday, the Islamist movement denounced the “horrific massacre” that targeted a group of police officers and the “bombardment of Gaza City” that killed and wounded civilians. The statement said that the “deliberate and repeated targeting of police officers while they perform their duties is part of Israel’s attempt to obstruct recovery efforts, undermine stability in the Gaza Strip, and sow chaos.” It added that “international silence and the failure to confront these horrific crimes only embolden the occupation.”

Gaza’s health authorities reported that 1,580 Palestinians have been killed and 5,711 wounded in the enclave since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, bringing the cumulative toll since Oct. 7, 2023 to 74,594 dead and 175,834 wounded.
