With a total of 590 days in space across four missions, Pettit is celebrated for his dedication. However, he is not the oldest individual to have ventured into orbit—this title belongs to John Glenn, who flew at age 77 in 1998 and passed away in 2016. After landing, the astronauts will take time to readjust to Earth's gravity. Pettit, who hails from Oregon, will head to Houston, while his Russian counterparts will travel to Zvyozdniy Gorodok near Moscow.
Prior to their return, the crew transferred command of the ISS to Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi. Meanwhile, two NASA astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, faced notable delays and returned to Earth last month after spending over nine months aboard the ISS, due to technical difficulties.
