In brief
Local health officials have issued a stark warning regarding the conditions at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, highlighting a desperate need for food and water.
Dozens of injured patients in the Indonesian Hospital located in northern Gaza are reportedly in critical danger as the facility grapples with an acute shortage of essential supplies, particularly food and water. The health ministry of Gaza, in a statement released on Tuesday, informed that at least 60 patients are “at risk of death due to a lack of food and water,” citing the deteriorating humanitarian situation within the hospital. They have urgently called upon the international community to take action to ensure the survival of these patients. This plea for assistance coincides with the 75th anniversary of Human Rights Day recognized by the United Nations, which commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, emphasized the significant toll that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has taken on human rights, stating that the violence between Israel and Hamas has “stained our shared humanity” and violated numerous principles enshrined in international law. The ongoing military operations by Israel have intensified in northern Gaza, focusing on eliminating what the Israeli Defense Forces describe as a resurgence of Hamas. While the world’s attention has diverted to conflicts in Lebanon and a recent offensive in Syria leading to the fall of the Assad regime, the violence in Gaza continues unabated. In a recent tragic event, an airstrike in Beit Hanoun, a town in northern Gaza, resulted in the deaths of 25 individuals on Monday night, according to Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defense emergency service. The Israeli military has not commented on this strike, though they have issued orders urging civilians to evacuate from northern Gaza. Many residents, having been displaced persistently over the last year, have found themselves with no safe refuge and are compelled to remain amidst the perilous situation.
