In brief

Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC Gas plc and TotalEnergies today inked a five‑year liquefied natural gas supply agreement for up to 1.6 million tonnes. The deal is part of ADNOC’s new global LNG marketing platform and aims to support TotalEnergies’ portfolio after ending its partnership with the UAE gas operator. First deliveries will begin in 2026.

In Abu Dhabi on 3 November 2026, ADNOC Gas plc and its subsidiaries announced a five‑year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with French‑based TotalEnergies for up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG.

The contract will allow ADNOC Gas to deliver LNG to TotalEnergies each year, as the two parties negotiate technical and financial terms ahead of the first shipment, expected in 2026.

Fatema Al Nuaimi, chief executive officer of ADNOC Gas, said the partnership shows ADNOC’s supply reliability and helps the company pursue long‑term growth.

“Global demand for LNG continues to grow, and ADNOC Gas is well positioned to capture that opportunity. This agreement reflects the strength of our LNG business, the competitiveness of our supply offering and our ability to secure long‑term partnerships that support growth, enhance resilience and create lasting value for shareholders.”

Al Nuaimi’s remarks came as ADNOC launched a global LNG marketing and trading platform that merges the marketing functions of ADNOC Gas and XRG with the trading capabilities of ADNOC Trading. The platform aims to manage 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG beyond 2030 and to place Abu Dhabi on a leading global energy trading map.

Stéphane Michel, president of gas, renewables & power at TotalEnergies, highlighted the importance of the deal for the French company’s LNG portfolio.

“The signing of this agreement with ADNOC Gas marks another important milestone in our long‑standing partnership and highlights our commitment to deepening our cooperation for the long term. Thanks to its perfect location between Europe and Asia, this new supply will enable TotalEnergies to confirm its position as one of the main LNG portfolio suppliers.”

Michel told the press that the new supply will help offset the finish of TotalEnergies’ earlier partnership with Abu Dhabi’s gas operator and retain its foothold in the rapidly expanding LNG market.

BusinessWire noted that the agreement is another step in the “more flexible and customer‑focused supply solutions” promised by ADNOC’s integrated commercial platform. It also confirmed that the first deliveries would likely start this year, ahead of the turnaround at the Ruwais LNG complex.

Oil & Gas Middle East reported that ADNOC Gas aims to increase production capacity through the upcoming Ruwais LNG plant, which is expected to scale up the company’s output and meet the projected global demand for LNG.

Implications for the Global LNG Market

The deal is part of a wider trend of long‑term LNG contracts that provide certainty to buyers while securing supply for producers. Analysts say that ADNOC’s delivery capability and TotalEnergies’ market presence could reinforce the stability of LNG flows between the Middle East and Europe.

By securing a five‑year contract, both companies mitigate price volatility and can lock in engineering and logistics costs. The contract also places Abu Dhabi on a competitive footing with other LNG producers such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Oil & Gas Middle East added that the partnership follows a period of “turbulence” in the LNG market, marked by shifting alliances and regional developments. The agreement signals a return to more stable, long‑term relationships among major gas producers and consumers.

Overall, the contract between ADNOC Gas and TotalEnergies marks a new milestone for both companies as they expand their presence in the global LNG supply chain. The first shipments in 2026 will test the logistics, quality and pricing arrangements discussed during the negotiation phase.
