In brief

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said US intelligence sharing on missile attacks is now effective following talks with President Trump's envoy in Oslo. The meeting followed accusations that Washington withheld critical information, a claim denied by US officials. Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted genuine progress towards peace proposals, while Russia has yet to react. The dialogue comes as Ukrainian forces report ongoing drone attacks and casualties. Relations between Kyiv and Washington remain tense with calls for new leadership from the US.

Volodymyr Zelensky stood in front of a camera in Oslo, declaring that the United States is now providing real‑time intelligence about Russian missile strikes. The announcement followed a private briefing with Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s special envoy, and came after Kyiv accused Washington of withholding vital data – a claim the US denied as “scandalous.”

Finnish President Alexander Stubb, also on the sidelines, said the talks made “genuine progress” on the peace proposals discussed, though he did not specify the details. He warned that patience would be required before a settlement can be achieved.

Zelensky’s message to the world is that Ukraine is ready for negotiations, even as Russian forces continue drone attacks that have flown at least ten people to the hospital – four in Kyiv and the surrounding region, four in eastern Donetsk and two in Dnipro.

The US remains in a delicate position: while Secretary of State Marco Rubio has insisted no intelligence was withheld, Washington’s relationship with Kyiv is now strained, with President Trump demanding Kyiv produce a new leader and a fresh negotiating team.

Russia’s Vladimir Putin has not yet publicly responded to the developments. Kremlin officials say they will consider what Witkoff offers but have ruled out any political concessions. Meanwhile, European leaders stress that any end to the conflict must include discussions with Moscow and the West.
