An investigation has been initiated into the unsettling death of French streamer Raphaël Graven, popularly known as Jeanpormanove. Found dead at his home in Contes, a village situated north of Nice, the 46-year-old's demise occurred during a live broadcast, reportedly following episodes of extreme challenges that included violence and sleep deprivation. Local media confirmed he passed away in his sleep while streaming.
French government minister Clara Chappaz expressed horror over the incident, characterizing the violence endured by Graven as an "absolute horror," emphasizing that he had suffered humiliation for extended periods. The streaming platform Kick, where Graven had amassed a following of over a million users, has committed to urgently reviewing the circumstances leading to his death. A spokesperson conveyed condolences to Graven's family and community while reaffirming their dedication to protecting content creators through established community guidelines.
Chappaz has involved Arcom, the French media regulator, and Pharos, a reporting system for online content, to investigate the matter further. Sarah El Haïry, France's High Commissioner for Children, labeled the situation "horrifying" and stressed the platforms' vital responsibility in managing online content to shield children from violent material, urging parental vigilance.
The prosecutor's office confirmed that an autopsy has been ordered, as investigations into the cause of Graven's death continue. Paying tribute to Graven, fellow streamers and community members have requested respect for his memory, imploring followers not to circulate distressing footage of his passing.
