The announcement follows a recent incident at Brize Norton, where activists hurled red paint at military planes. The legal proceedings to ban Palestine Action will be presented to Parliament on June 30. Cooper stressed that the group's activities qualify as terrorism due to the severe damage caused to property, marking a significant shift where property destruction is now recognized as a criterion for terrorist classification in the UK.

The decision will grant police additional powers to manage the group, which will join the ranks of over 80 organizations previously classified as terrorist groups by the UK government, including international entities like Hamas and ISIS. This proposed ban signifies the first instance in the UK where a group is labeled as a terrorist organization primarily based on property damage as opposed to violence, as stated by Jonathan Hall, an advisor on terrorism laws.

Hall elaborated that the involvement of Palestine Action in targeting a military site raised significant national security concerns, prompting the government to act decisively.
