Authorities in Texas are on high alert after a convict, Tory Dugas, 36, was released from Harris County jail by mistake. Dugas was awaiting a seven-year sentence that encompassed five years for assaulting a family member and two years for evading arrest. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Dugas, who had been imprisoned on separate charges that were later dismissed, was erroneously freed around 4:30 AM on Sunday.

The incident has led to a comprehensive inquiry to determine what ensued during the documentation process that allowed Dugas to be released in error. The sheriff’s office indicated that the failure to properly update his file regarding the state prison sentence created confusion, leading to the assumption that he was eligible for release.

Authorities discovered Dugas was missing only on Monday morning, during a routine check of individuals scheduled for transfer to state custody. Officials are urging the public to report any sightings of Dugas to the police. This case is not isolated; earlier this year, a man under capital murder charges was mistakenly released due to a mix-up with names but voluntarily returned after 24 hours.
