President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied allegations by Russia that Ukraine launched a drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin's residences, accusing Moscow of attempting to derail peace talks.
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov alleged that Kyiv had attacked overnight using 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Novgorod region. In response, Zelensky dismissed these claims as typical Russian lies, aimed at giving the Kremlin an excuse to continue its military operations against Ukraine.
Zelensky warned that it was crucial for the world to remain vigilant and not allow Russia to undermine efforts for lasting peace. Lavrov stated that all 91 drones claimed to have been aimed at Putin's residence had been intercepted by Russian defenses, causing no casualties or damages.
This claim is significant as it arises right after U.S.-Ukraine talks in Florida, where Presidents Trump and Zelensky discussed a security guarantee for Ukraine to last 15 years, with near completion reported on this agreement.
Amidst ongoing tensions, the U.S. responded positively to communications with Russia about the strike, with the Kremlin expressing anger over the situation and warning that it could impact U.S. relations with Ukraine.
The situation continues to evolve as peace negotiations remain delicate and fraught with complexity, particularly regarding territorial disputes involving the Donbas region.
