Donald Trump has warned that the U.S.–Iran war will only be resolved after the November midterm elections, adding that oil prices will drop only then.
Speaking while en route to Texas for the Republican Convention, Trump said, “I think the war’s going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer.” He linked the conflict to rising gasoline and diesel costs, noting that oil reached $100 a barrel for the first time since July.
Trump urged Congress to act decisively, saying he faces pressure from within his party to end the war. He added that Iran was “trying to affect the election so that we can get a weak group of people in there” and leave them alone to keep their nuclear weapon.
No evidence was provided for the claim, and Tehran has denied seeking nuclear weapons. Trump reiterated at the convention that oil prices would tumble “as soon as we win the war with Iran.”
The conflict, in its seventh month, has inflamed military actions, with the U.S. attacking five Iranian‑linked oil tankers and Iran retaliating against U.S. Navy ships. The intensity has pushed global fuel prices higher and raised concerns about potential impacts on the U.S. economy.
