WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) — A 24-year-old Mississippi man killed six people — his father, brother, uncle, 7-year-old cousin, a church pastor, and the pastor’s brother — at three locations during a Friday night rampage in a rural area, authorities said. Daricka M. Moore was arrested at a police roadblock in Cedarbluff just before midnight after dozens of local, state, and federal officers flooded the northeast Mississippi area. Moore is being held without bail at the Clay County jail in West Point on murder charges pending an initial appearance before a judge on Monday. Clay County District Attorney Scott Colom expects to pursue the death penalty and stated Moore will likely be appointed a public defender. The killings began at the family's mobile home where allegedly Moore killed his father, 67-year-old Glenn Moore, his brother Quinton Moore, and uncle Willie Ed Guines, aged 55. Moore then drove a stolen vehicle a few miles away to his cousin’s house, where police say he shot his 7-year-old cousin and attempted to commit sexual battery. Shortly afterward, he drove to a nearby church, broke in, and killed the pastor and his brother. Colom described the events as among the worst he has seen, emphasizing the tragedy's impact on the community. Investigations continue into the motives and origins of the firearms used in the shootings.
