A Russian missile attack on a drone exhibition near Kyiv has killed ten people and wounded dozens. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the display, attended by defence sector officials, suffered 100 injuries in addition to the deaths.
Glide bombs from Russia also claimed five lives in Sloviansk in the east and two in Sumy to the north. Ukrainian forces responded by striking a factory in Kirov and warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, to interfere with supplies to the Russian army.
Following the attack near Kyiv, security officials and developers involved in the drone technologies confirmed they were unharmed, though concerns were raised about the safety of the event. Ukrainian air force spokesman Yuri Ihnat reported that out of three missiles fired, only one was intercepted. Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed the use of long‑range weapons on the exhibition, claiming it targeted public drones intended for civil site attacks in Russia.
The incident marks the third time a public drone exhibit has been struck since the full‑scale Russian invasion in 2022, provoking widespread outrage over the event’s public nature and its advertising. President Zelensky said investigations are underway to determine who authorized the event and what safety measures were in place. Ukraine’s prosecutor‑general is pursuing the chain of decision‑makers behind the exhibition.
