Spanish museum in Alicante fell victim to a highly coordinated four‑minute robbery that removed a wealth of Bronze Age artefacts.
Authorities are still tallying the exact number of pieces taken, but early reports confirm that rings, bowls and bracelets were among the items removed from the Villena Museum Treasure of Villena collection.
The eight‑year‑old trove, originally recovered in 1963, has been safeguarded as a symbol of Spain pre-historical heritage. Inside are more than 60 items, including 29 bracelets, 11 bowls, three glass bottles and a variety of jewellery made of gold, silver and amber.
Security footage shows a brief diversion at a nearby sports centre that diverted police away from the museum before the alarm was triggered. Within four minutes the thieves penetrated the building, swept the collection and left before officers arrived.
This incident follows a string of recent heists across European museums, including the high‑profile Louvre break‑in and thefts in Sicily, Italy.
