UK to Host 2035 Women's World Cup as FIFA Confirms Only Valid Bid
The UK wins the rights to host the Women's World Cup in 2035, marking a significant milestone for women's football.
The United Kingdom has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2035 Women’s World Cup by FIFA, after submitting the only valid bid. The joint proposal from Scotland, Wales, England, and Northern Ireland came earlier this year as FIFA emphasized the need for the upcoming tournament to be held in Europe or Africa. Although there were possibilities of co-bids from Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the UK was the sole valid contender. With the United States also preparing to host the 2031 Women's World Cup, Infantino acknowledged the momentum building for women’s football, with an increase in participating teams in future tournaments. The 2031 edition will see 48 teams competing, an expansion from the current 32 teams set for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
