Russian drone strikes Kyiv media headquarters, killing five

A Russian drone hit the Ukrainian TV channel "We Are Ukraine" in Kyiv, partially collapsing its newsroom and killing five people, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed. The attack occurred while journalists were broadcasting live.

Zelensky called the daylight strike a "new page in Russian degradation" and said the attack was deliberate, targeting journalists. "Russia must be stopped, and this is possible only through joint efforts," he said in a call to Ukraine’s allies in Europe, the United States and worldwide.

The Ukrainian state emergency service DSNS reported a series of explosions overnight, killing three people and injuring 25 across the capital. Residential buildings, including a five‑storey house in the Solomianskyi district, and vehicles in the Podilskyi district were hit.

Citizens sought shelter in underground metro stations during the night, a routine response in the ongoing conflict. By Tuesday afternoon, the death toll had reached five.

The incident coincides with a truce period that had begun after a weekend visit by U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, though talks have yet to produce substantive agreements.

Zelensky warned that the war would likely continue into winter, as the nation expects continued Russian aggression despite diplomatic negotiations.
