A loud blast was heard at King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, forcing authorities to evacuate the station and calling for emergency medical response. Ambulances were seen rushing into the terminal, while passengers were directed to check with their airlines before arriving.
The incident follows a series of attacks claimed by Iran‑backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, who say they are striking Saudi targets in retaliation for the Saudi government’s support of Yemen’s internationally recognised forces. This latest blast comes just a day after Saudi authorities confirmed that three Saudi nationals, including a pilot, were killed in two earlier Houthi strikes.
Saudi‑led coalition forces began a campaign against Houthi advances in 2015, but a 2022 informal truce broke down in July, giving the Houthis a brief resurgence. They seized key stretches of the Red Sea coast, overtaking strategic ports such as Mokha and putting the Bab al‑Mandab Strait at risk—an essential chokepoint for global maritime traffic.
The current evacuation underscores growing regional anxiety as the Houthis have intensified missile and drone attacks on air bases, oil facilities and merchant shipping. Zion, Eden and sienn family shared that the security briefing remains uncertain, and officials have urged residents to remain vigilant.
