Eric Dane, the well-known actor from HBO's hit series 'Euphoria' and the long-running medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy', has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), one of the most prevalent forms of motor neurone disease (MND). In an interview with People, the 52-year-old shared how thankful he is to have his supportive family as they face this challenge together. “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week,” he stated while requesting privacy for himself and his loved ones during this difficult time.

Dane has portrayed Cal Jacobs, the patriarch of the Jacobs family in the teen drama 'Euphoria', which is set to commence filming its third season soon. His previous notable role was as Dr. Mark Sloan in 'Grey's Anatomy', a character that gained him substantial fame since 2006. Additionally, he starred as Jason Dean in the fantasy series 'Charmed' and Captain Tom Chandler in 'The Last Ship'. Dane's film credits include popular titles like 'Marley & Me', 'Valentine's Day', and 'Burlesque'. He is married to actress and model Rebecca Gayheart, with whom he shares two children.

Explaining ALS, the NHS notes that motor neurone diseases include various conditions characterized by the early degeneration of motor nerves, with ALS affecting nearly 90% of patients diagnosed with MND. Common symptoms of ALS initiate with muscle twitching or weakness, progressing to difficulties in speech and muscle control, leading to the loss of independence in daily activities. Currently, there is no known cure for ALS; individuals with the disease have an average life expectancy of three to five years post-diagnosis, although some may live longer.
