Poland Crater From Likely Russian Missile Found Inside Border

Early Thursday morning a field near the Ukrainian border in eastern Poland was struck, leaving a 33‑ft crater close to the village of Tarnawa Kolonia. Polish authorities say the impact was caused by a missile.

According to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the debris most likely originated from a Russian Kh‑101 ballistic missile, though the government will confirm the type and launch source once the investigation completes. Ukrainian officials have reported the same missile as part of a massive strike on Lviv that also crossed Polish airspace.

Polish defence officials noted that about 20 unidentified objects were observed near the country’s airspace overnight. Pyrotechnic analysis is underway to determine the exact identity of the missile that fell near Tarnawa Kolonia, while a Polish F‑16 fighter jet intercepted the object at 03:40, after which it disappeared from radar tracking.

No casualties have been reported and military sources are treating the event as a serious breach of airspace sovereignty. Polish troops are on alert and the incident is being monitored closely.
