Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has ordered a nationwide manhunt for armed kidnappers who attacked four villages in Niger state, killing dozens and abducting up to 500 people.
The attackers, believed to be criminal bandits, filmed the abducted villagers and posted the footage on social media. President Tinubu condemned the violence and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Local authorities report more than 40 deaths and the use of improvised explosive devices during the assault; several survivors are receiving medical care.
The incident highlights rising insecurity along the Borgu region, bordering Kebbi, Kwara and Benin, where both bandit and jihadist groups operate.
President Tinubu urged the public to remain vigilant and promised that perpetrators would not go unpunished.
