Police have identified a suspect in connection with the disappearance of Gus Lamont, a four-year-old boy who went missing from his home in the South Australian outback. Gus was last seen playing outside his family’s remote sheep station near Yunta on September 27. His grandmother had left him alone for approximately half an hour, and upon returning, she discovered he was missing, leading to one of the largest search operations in South Australia’s history.
Law enforcement agencies conducted extensive searches covering over 470 square kilometers in the surrounding areas but could not find any trace of the young boy. Recently, a person residing on the property where Gus disappeared has been identified as a suspect, while authorities clarified that Gus's parents are not under investigation.
In the weeks following Gus's disappearance, police formed a specialized task force to continue the investigation after search efforts were scaled back. This task force has focused on inconsistencies found in statements from family members which could provide crucial leads.
Detectives have also conducted a search of the property, seizing multiple items, including a vehicle and electronic devices. The investigation is ongoing, and police emphasized their commitment to solving the case and locating Gus.
Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke stated, We are focused and determined to locate Gus and return him to his parents. Our thorough investigations will continue until we achieve a satisfactory outcome. The authorities remain dedicated to exploring all avenues to ensure a resolution in this heart-wrenching case.
