US authorities have issued an urgent warning regarding Celsius energy drinks following a disturbing mix-up where certain cans were mistakenly filled with vodka. The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has alerted consumers to examine the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of the drink due to potential product contamination.
The incident occurred after a packaging supplier erroneously sent empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a vodka seltzer producer, which subsequently filled the cans with alcohol. In light of this mix-up, High Noon is also recalling several Beach Variety packs linked to the same production line.
As of now, officials have reported no illnesses or adverse reactions associated with the affected products. The recall pertains to two specific production lots, details of which have been published on the USFDA’s official website. These products were distributed to retailers in several states including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23.
The recalled High Noon packs feature a retail code of UPC 085000040065 and the following lot codes: L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59 and L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00. Consumers should also look out for the Celsius cans with the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1, bearing the lot codes: L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11. These codes are lasered onto the bottom of the cans.
The USFDA advised consumers to immediately dispose of the affected Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink and not to consume the liquid from cans corresponding to the recalled lot codes. It confirmed that High Noon Beach Variety packs with different lot codes remain safe for consumption.
