A Ryanair flight traveling from Berlin to Milan was forced to divert to Memmingen Airport in southern Germany on Wednesday night after encountering "severe turbulence," leading to injuries for eight passengers, including a two-year-old child and a woman who sustained a head injury, according to Bavarian police.
Following the incident, three individuals were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, while others received onsite treatment. The captain of the flight had proactively requested medical assistance, and although the plane experienced challenging weather conditions, it managed to make a normal landing at 20:44 local time (18:44 GMT) at Memmingen.
Local authorities noted that, due to adverse weather conditions, a landing at Munich Airport was not feasible, hence the decision to divert to Memmingen. Ryanair announced that it had arranged alternative travel options for the affected passengers, including a replacement flight scheduled for the following morning. The airline expressed regret for the disturbances caused and is making efforts to assist the 179 passengers and six crew members onboard.
All passengers on the flight were assessed for potential injuries as a precautionary measure, with ages of those injured ranging between two and 59 years old. Ryanair has emphasized its commitment to passenger safety throughout the incident.
