In brief
An investigation outlines the profound secrecy surrounding America's military operations in Ukraine, highlighting the strategic support provided through a covert partnership aimed at countering Russia's military advantages.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has reached a crucial turning point as President Trump advocates for reconciliation with Russian President Vladimir V. Putin and pursues an end to hostilities. However, for nearly three years prior to Trump's re-election, the United States has been intricately involved in the conflict, operating under a clandestine partnership with Ukraine that few were aware of until now. According to a New York Times report, the depth of America’s role in the war is more significant than previously recognized, encompassing intelligence sharing, strategic planning, and advanced technology deployment. The Pentagon has disclosed details about the $66.5 billion worth of military assistance provided to Ukraine, yet the investigation reveals that this partnership also involved daily tactical guidance for Ukrainian forces. An integral component of this collaboration has been Task Force Dragon, based at a U.S. Army facility in Wiesbaden, Germany. Here, U.S. and Ukrainian military leaders participated in regular strategy sessions, determining key targets for strikes against Russian military assets. Utilizing a range of intelligence sources, including satellite imagery and communications interception, Task Force Dragon relayed exact coordinates of Russian forces to Ukrainian troops for targeted attacks—designated as “points of interest” rather than “targets” to mitigate potential escalation concerns. This covert military effort has shown how closely the U.S. and Ukraine have worked together to address the considerable military disparities against Russia, marking a significant chapter in modern warfare and international relations.
