Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, a prevalent form of motor neurone disease (MND). In an interview with People, the 52-year-old actor expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of his family as they face this new challenge together.

"I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week," Dane stated, also requesting privacy for himself and his loved ones during this trying time. He plays the role of Cal Jacobs, the influential patriarch of the Jacobs family in HBO's popular teen drama Euphoria, which is set to begin production on its third season soon.

Before his role on Euphoria, Dane gained fame as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy from 2006 and had memorable appearances in series like Charmed as Jason Dean and The Last Ship as Captain Tom Chandler. He has also starred in films such as Marley & Me, Valentine's Day, and Burlesque. Dane shares a family life with actress and model Rebecca Gayheart, and they are proud parents of two children.

ALS is a rare degenerative condition characterized by the gradual paralysis of muscles, caused by the degeneration of nerve cells in the brain and spine. Initial symptoms often include muscle twitching or weakness in a limb, evolving into slurred speech. Unfortunately, there is currently no known cure for ALS, with most patients living for three to five years post-diagnosis, though some may survive for numerous years. As Dane embarks on this journey, his fans and colleagues extend their support and admiration for his strength.
