At least 104 Palestinians were killed in a wave of Israeli strikes in Gaza on Tuesday night, the territory's Hamas-run health ministry reports.
The Israeli military stated it struck 'dozens of terror targets and terrorists' in response to breaches of a US-brokered ceasefire deal by Hamas.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Hamas of violating terms by attacking Israeli soldiers, while President Donald Trump insisted on maintaining the ceasefire, emphasizing the need for Israel to respond to attacks.
The strikes have caused widespread devastation, hitting homes, schools, and other civilian infrastructures across various regions of Gaza.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of devastation, with explosions resulting in 'pillars of fire and smoke' rising from affected areas. The Health Ministry reported that the casualties included 46 children and 20 women, along with over 250 injuries.
Hamas has denied responsibility for the soldier's death and accused Israel of trying to undermine the ceasefire.
This latest clash comes on the heels of a ceasefire agreement which had previously established a temporary truce between the conflicting parties, facilitated by international negotiators.
UN human rights chief Volker Türk condemned the violence, calling the high casualty numbers 'appalling' and urging all parties to adhere to the ceasefire.
The ongoing conflict has drawn significant international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the potential for further escalation.
