A terrifying incident unfolded on a Melbourne motorway when a driver made an emergency stop after discovering a venomous tiger snake crawling up her leg. Victoria Police responded to the scene to perform a welfare check on the visibly shaken woman, who was "acting hiss-terically" as she flagged down passing motorists. While traveling at 80km/h on the Monash freeway, the woman felt a peculiar sensation on her foot, only to glance down and see the snake. She bravely managed to maneuver through traffic and pull over, leaping out of her vehicle and leaving behind one of her shoes in the process. Melbourne Snake Control was alerted to safely retrieve the dangerous reptile, known for its potent venom. After assessing her condition, the woman was taken to the hospital for a possible snake bite but is reported to be recovering well, according to a social media update from the snake control team.Witnessing the dramatic scene, passing drivers were reportedly left in disbelief, many capturing footage of the snake's removal. Tim Nanninga from Melbourne Snake Control confirmed that the snake was returned to its natural habitat, far from people and pets. Tiger snakes, common along Australia’s coastlines, are recognized as one of the world's most dangerous snake species, making this incident a stark reminder of the wildlife encounters that can occur in urban settings.
