Six beluga whales formerly housed at the now‑closed Marineland of Canada have reached new homes in U.S. aquariums, following a carefully planned relocation.
The pods—Sierra, Acadia, Osiris and Lillooet—were transferred to a Chicago‑area marine facility, while Bertie Botts and Frankie crossed the border to SeaWorld San Antonio, Texas, in specialised cold‑water containers.
Marine‑mammal veterinarians accompanied the six whales throughout the journey, ensuring their health and wellbeing. Transport occurred by truck and aircraft, and veterinary checks were completed over several months prior to departure.
This move marks the first stage of a large‑scale, international relocation effort, with specialist teams now monitoring the whales as they adjust to their new environments.
